WAIC 2025: How AI Is Shaping Global Communication

Neural network models are increasingly being integrated into physical devices. No longer confined to the clouds or the interfaces we're used to; they are already reshaping industries from manufacturing to linguistics. This trend emerged as the central theme of the eighth World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC 2025), held in Shanghai from July 26 to 28. For the Logrus IT team, the event was yet another opportunity to explore how new technologies are shaping the future of localization and multilingual communication.

Scale and Focus

The conference combined an exhibition and business program across two venues: the Shanghai World Expo Center and the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center. The overall theme was “Global Solidarity in the Age of AI.”

Over three days, the exhibition attracted more than 300,000 visitors. More than 1,500 experts from 73 countries and regions engaged in discussions, among them 12 distinguished award winners—including Nobel Prize and Turing Award laureates. The program focused on three main themes: “Questions of Science,” “Questions of Mathematics,” and “Questions of AI Models.” Talks explored opportunities for collaboration between governments, business, and the scientific community in pursuit of sustainable and inclusive AI development.

The exhibition, spanning a record 70,000 square meters, showcased over 800 companies and more than 3,000 technology solutions, including 40+ large language models (LLMs) and 100+ products making their debut on the Chinese or global market. Digital industry leaders such as Alibaba, Baidu, Google, iFLYTEK, Siemens, Tencent, Tesla, and Unitree Robotics presented their latest developments. The exhibition was organized into four themed areas:

  • Core Technologies (LLMs, digital platforms, chips)
  • Industry Solutions (fintech, autonomous transport, smart city systems)
  • Global Digital Ecosystem (investment, startups)
  • Smart Devices (robotics and hardware)

Robots were a major attraction at the exhibition, with over 150 models on display, 60 of which were new. On Robotics Street—inspired by 1990s Shanghai—robots sold drinks and popcorn, cooked oden, danced, played drums, and even practiced calligraphy. Other exhibits included companion robots for social interaction, heavy industrial robots for demanding manufacturing tasks, and boxing robots for... boxing.

Multilingual Communication Technologies

AI-powered simultaneous translation helped break down language barriers at WAIC 2025. The opening ceremony and forum speeches were accompanied by automatically generated subtitles.

In addition, Alibaba Cloud and Rokid showcased smart glasses with voice control and transcription capabilities: AI translated speech in real time and displayed the text on a screen built into the lens. In a simulation of a multilingual café, visitors were able to converse with each other in different languages.

iFLYTEK showcased professional voice recorders designed to be worn on the wrist like a bracelet or watch. Thanks to AI noise reduction, the new models can capture speech from up to 20 meters away, even in noisy environments, twice the range of most devices in the industry. In the future, the company plans to equip the recorder with a multimodal LLM that uses both audio and visual input to boost speech recognition accuracy.

Logrus IT: Global Dialogue and Expert Approach

The demonstrations at WAIC 2025 confirmed that neural networks are a powerful tool for translation and voiceover. They can understand context and operate more flexibly than traditional machine translation. However, these technologies have limitations: neural translation systems can omit words, distort meaning, or translate the same phrase inconsistently. In addition, privacy and copyright concerns remain pressing.

Recognizing these limitations, Logrus IT uses neural translation only where appropriate and always follows up with careful post-editing. We also use AI for voiceover and transcription to speed up processes without compromising quality.

For 32 years, we've been helping companies overcome linguistic and cultural barriers, adapting texts for specific tasks, audiences, and contexts. Our clients include Microsoft, Kaspersky, BMW, Sportmaster, and other industry leaders, ranging from high tech to retail.

Our range of services includes:

  • Multilingual translation and content localization.
  • Voiceover, subtitles, and transcription for video and training materials.
  • Development of e-learning courses and multimedia presentations.
  • Game localization—from text to voiceover and testing.
  • And more, from terminology consulting to interface and graphics adaptation.

Logrus IT works with professional linguists and native speakers to ensure that every translation reflects both cultural context and industry-specific subtleties. Our flexible approach, fine-tuned processes (including MTPE and AIPE), and optimal balance of quality and cost make us a reliable partner in the global digital landscape.
