Managing a cybersecurity news portal

Our client is a major international company developing cybersecurity systems for homes and businesses. The company is renowned for its security solutions aimed at countering hacker attacks, blocking malicious links, and neutralizing virus threats. The company researches a variety of cyberthreats and manages online resources related to cybersecurity.

Task

The client created the Threatpost portal, dedicated to information security news. The site is visited by both Russian and English-speaking users, so articles were published in both languages. Day-to-day portal maintenance became increasingly time-consuming for the client’s staff, which led them to delegating management to Logrus IT specialists.

Our task was to ensure regular publication of posts while also increasing site traffic and page views. On average, we needed to publish five articles daily under tight deadlines, ensuring the news remained relevant.

Why us?

Logrus IT offered a full range of services for managing the portal. We handled copywriting, editing, and proofreading, and sourced images from the client’s database to illustrate the articles. We also made recommendations for expanding this image database. Our flexible, adaptive approach tailored to the client’s workflow quickly earned their trust.

Approach

For the project, we hired two editors with experience in the news industry and a strong understanding of the subject matter. In addition to proofreading, they were responsible for monitoring the information landscape, selecting relevant topics, planning tasks to meet regular publication schedules, and analyzing metrics. We also assembled a team of writers who could submit materials under tight deadlines and adhere to strict formatting requirements.

The project demanded constant engagement. Our task was not only to maintain a high work pace but also to ensure the accuracy of all facts. To maintain the quality of texts and prevent burnout, we periodically rotated the group of authors.

The project included the following stages:

  1. Finding news topics
Editors reviewed publications from news agencies, cybersecurity companies, and individual experts on web platforms, selecting the most interesting cybersecurity news. Editors worked in morning and evening shifts to quickly respond to emerging news and ensure continuous coverage.
  2. Writing and editing news articles
Our editors selected relevant topics and assigned them to writers. It was essential for the client to maintain consistency in the article format, so our writers followed a template. Editors reviewed the texts to ensure they met quality standards and made necessary revisions.
  3. Publishing posts
Editors also handled the preparation of posts: selecting images from the illustration database, formatting the posts according to Threatpost requirements, and publishing them on the portal.
  4. Quality control
Every quarter, the client selected ten random news articles for expert review. The experts re-read the posts, provided recommendations, and gave a general evaluation of our work.
  5. Tracking metrics
We regularly analyzed the portal’s metrics, such as page visits, number of views, and reader engagement with various articles. This helped us align our content strategy with audience interests. Additionally, we generated reports based on these metrics, allowing the client to track the resource’s growing popularity.

Outcome

The client was satisfied with the quality of the articles and the steady growth of key performance indicators. We managed the project for two and a half years. Over this period, our team wrote, edited, formatted, and published nearly 3,000 articles. Logrus IT continues to support the client by writing content for blogs and special projects, designing products, and creating training videos and e-learning courses .
